Fisherhaven fringes the Bot River Lagoon and Estuary, an estuarine system designated as a Ramsar  Site where the delicate ecosystem is protected. This ecosystem forms part of the 10 most important wetlands for water birds, as it is a haven for 86 species that have been found here.
